I've been collecting and selling comic and pop art since the mid 1980s but got serious about it in the early 90s. I've owned and sold entire issues of comics illustrated by Simon Bisley, Tim Vigil, Chris Bacchalo and Brendan McCarthy, and handled key pieces by Jack Kirby and Gil Kane. Sadly, I don't have scans of most of them, but I see some of the Vertigo art in several of the collections posted herein. I sold off the majority of my comic book art, but held onto a few of my sentimental favorites as I moved on to paintings by notable lowbrow artists and modern pop/graf practitioners. I also have a lot of animation art. I curate a gallery on artslant with revolving works for sale: http://www.artslant.com/la/venues/show/3434-panik-gallery I am also the gallery director at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. We're soon absorbing the Billy Shire Fine Arts gallery in Culver City as we expand the space inside the Soap Plant / Wacko complex on Hollywood Blvd. We host a new opening reception on the first Friday of each month, which is a tradition we established back in 1986. Prominent comic book art shows include the Zap 13 show which featured the art of Robert Crumb, Robert Williams, Spain Rodriguez, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, S Clay Wilson, Paul Mavrides and others, helping establish sequential art as a legitimate contemporary art movement. The final show at the BSFA Culver City space (which closes on March 6th, 2010) is Dave McKean's Nitrate & Kinogeists exhibition. In 2011 will open Pop-Sequentialism: The Greatest Comic Book Art of the Past 25 Years. The exhibition will focus on the best collaborations between great artists and great writers that excel in storytelling while achieving the heights of graphic craftsmanship. www.billyshirefinearts.com www.laluzdejesus.com (323) 297-0600 or (323) 666-7667
