Turgeon, Shane
I started collecting comics in the mid-late 1980s and moved into toy collecting in 1990/91 which is where most of my collecting budget has been spent over the last 18 or 19 years. I primarily collect vintage Star Wars and 3 3/4" GI Joes with a focus on prototype and preproduction material. With a love for pre-production toy and animation art and recent lulls in those hobbies, i have turned back to what started it all - comic books. While i have no desire to have long boxes full of comics anymore, original comic art has found a sweet spot in my heart and i've been selectively collecting for a couple of years now.
Admittedly, my first foray into original comic art was a beauty - an unpublished pin-up page from GI Joe #1 done by Herb Trimpe. My next few purchases however, were fairly entry-level and lackluster and didn't really satisfy that need to have killer stuff. So, i decided to pick my favourite childhood characters and books and buy some smokin' splash pages or covers from those titles. I've only picked up a couple so far but i'm really glad i decided to go that route and i'm really satisfied with these new acquisitions.
I'm the co-founder of the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo which is one of Western Canada's largest events.
