I have been collecting original comic art since July 1964. I got my first piece of original art at the first comic book convention in world history at the Workman's Circle Hall at Fourth Avenue and 12th Street in Manhattan. There were only 43 of us. Attendees includes Phil Seuling, dealer Bill Thailling from Cleveland, Tom Gill, long time artist on the Lone Ranger and other titles, Flo Steinberg, Stan Lee's secretary, and Steve Ditko. I don't believe the latter has been to another convention.
They were giving away original art to attendees. My first piece was a Tom Gill Fury page. Fury was the horse starring from the television show. In 1965, I went to the Dave Kaler convention. I bought my second page of original art at that show - a Viking Prince page cost me $15.00.
