I got out of comics ten years ago and rediscovered Marvel for my 401K rollover. (The only cool thing about being laid off!) I just recently found out original art is for sale. After browsing some other galleries here, I'm not sure whether to admire you guys or hate you. Ha ha... (True, though...) I use GIMP 2.0 to stitch and tweak my scans. (Hey, it's free!) I typically use these tools: levels, curves, sharpen.
