Chris' Collection
I discovered original art in the early 2000's & immediately fell in love with the unique nature of the medium. I enjoy that each piece is one-of-a-kind, historical, and offers a social component: an opportunity to interact with artists, collectors, & dealers for the purchase of said piece. I count myself lucky to have amassed a nice collection; however, I have also lost out on many good pieces because of indecisiveness, finances, etc.
I tend to view comics as Illustration Art--and as such look for representative images of the series as a whole, almost with a movie-poster single-image quality. Unfortunately, this is something that seems to be lost nowadays as more and more covers seem to have little to do with the stories contained within or even the series as a whole. That being said, I also love prime examples of comics as continuity art & hope to add some of these to my gallery in the near future. (For stellar examples, check out Christian Stoklas' Gallery, he's doing it right in this regard--!)
Of particular interest are the painterly artists who have elevated the form to the realm of fine art: Bill Sienkiewicz, Jon J Muth, Dave McKean, Kent Williams, George Pratt, John Van Fleet, Jeffrey "Catherine" Jones, Michael W. Kaluta, Barry Windsor-Smith, Bernie Wrightson, P. Craig Russell, Jim Steranko, Mark Chiarello, Tommy Lee Edwards, David Mack, Alex Ross, Randy DuBurke, Dave DeVries, Leif Jones & the indomitable Frank Frazetta & Barron Storey.
I am happy that a forum like comicartfans.com exists to showcase what we call "The Ninth Art." And I look forward to hearing from fellow aficionados both in the states & abroad.
Best,
Chris
