Description"THE CAPE!!!!!I have my doubts that it would cast that shadow, but honestly, who cares? LOOK AT THAT THING!!!!" http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2014/07/28/year-of-the-artist-day-209-todd-mcfarlane-part-3-detective-comics-576/ Thanks T.! This page was highlighted on 3/16/2022: [...]Prior to his emergence as the “Todd-father” of Image Comics and champion of indie creators, he cut his teeth on mainstream heroes such as Batman. This page from the “Year Two” storyline showcased a gunslinging Dark Knight teaming up with Gotham’s crimelords to take down the Reaper. On this page we see many of the exaggerated features that would mark McFarlane’s later work and an absurdly elongated cape that would become a hallmark of his signature character Spawn. “When I was younger, I used to compare Superman and Batman. Batman was always more intriguing to me. There was always that risk element that you could throw him out of a window without his utility belt and he would splat down on the sidewalk. Superman would never have that happen to him.” McFarlane said in an interview with Comics Beat, “To me it was like Batman has got to take way more risks every time he walks out of the confines of his own limitations. He might get hurt way more or at least feel the pain of being a superhero way more than other superheroes that have powers.” Social/Sharing |

Incredible. McFarlane Batman page possibly some of the rarest art there is and you got a real good one. Bravo!

Lovely work. I've never read any of these because Todd did this during my hiatus from comic collecting. I may have to correct that! Congratulations.

Nice pickup...That top panel is one of the images Bob Kane swiped back during that '89 resurgence of Bat-Mania

The McFarlane/Alcala Year 2 pages are such a gem in the hobby. The first panel is one of my absolute favorite Mcfarlane images outside of Spider-man.

No idea how I missed seeing this one before ! An incredible page from a story I truly loved ! The top panel reminds me of a certain Breyfogle image (which came out a few years later...) ;)...
