DescriptionA 2022 collecting highlight for sure from the final issue of Swamp Thing from the Ram V and Mike Perkins run. The series reinvigorated Swamp Thing and made the biggest impact on the character in its history alongside the Alan Moore / Yeates / Bissette/ Totleben / Veitch run and before with the original Wein / Wrightson run. They took it in their own direction, but had a great reverence to the past. Perkins found the perfect placement for visual homages throughout the series and this is the last one of them. It comes after the final conflict when all the weight of the world is off his shoulders where Swamp Thing can celebrate life, nature, and making it through his journey. It is based off the splash page in Saga of the Swamp Thing #24 by Bissette and Totleben from the Moore run. Perkins uses ink, wash, white paint and pencil rendering to achieve this look of joy and to achieve a well earned finale to their Swamp Thing run… for now...Happy Halloween!!! Social/Sharing |

In the last few years Perkins has become a powerhouse artist and one of the best to use ink wash techniques. This image shows Perkins at his very best !

Beautifully iconic image of Swamp Thing and great homage to that memorable splash! I find that Perkins' version shows a more heroic/triumphant mood, compared to that definitely ecstatic one by Bissette and Totleben.

Spectacular, Marcus! A thrilling image to close out an extraordinary run, and a fantastic example of what you were referring to in your great write up; Ram and Mike boldly taking things forward and putting their own stamp on Swamp Thing while being respectful to (but not ensnared by) the giants that have come before. The perfect punctuation to celebrate surviving the immense struggles of his amazing 16 issues; Levi earned this moment the hard way. You are a worthy guardian of this lovely piece of the Green! :) Sincere congrats, Marcus!

I don't think there's really anything more I can add to everything I've already said about this series and the artistry in particular, but seeing this image again reminds me of what a fantastic and aesthetically pleasing illustration Perkins created for the story's denouement. I see this Swamp Thing run as a true love letter by Ram V & Mike Perkins to the Moore/Bissette/Totleben and Wein/Wrightson runs that came before and a more beautiful love letter could not possibly have been crafted. Kudos to you for snagging this magnificent work of art. Would look great framed. 😉

Marcus, I can imagine you mimicking this same pose when you realized you snagged it and all the weight of the world was off your shoulders and again when you saw it in person. I know I would! Congrats!

Such a great Swamp Thing piece. Mike does amazing work. Additionally I must say that little did I know that the Swamp Thing was such a big soccer fan.

Love this Swamp Thing splash by Mike Perkins! The pose is so iconic, with the Swamp Thing revelling in the sun. A nice homage to the Bissette and Totleben run as well. Perkin's use of ink wash really sets this splash apart and gives the drawing a richness and texture that I really love. Congrats!

The artist/character match was definitely a home run with Perkins/SW - seen so many killer examples here on CAF, and congrats on nabbing yours! It looks like SW agrees :) Textural goodness all around. Congrats, Marcus!
