DescriptionThis cover has a bit of a history for me.I first saw this in my friend Eric Delos Santos collection around 2001. I managed to do a deal with Eric for it but, foolishly let it go. I don't remember the exact circumstances except that I had a money crunch b/c I was buying my Mcfarlane Spider-Man/Venom cover. Fast forward to about 2006. I was visiting the East Coast and decided to meet Bill Woo and to check out his crazy art collection. There were great art pieces everywhere---Buscema, Kirby, Romita Sr., Starlin, etc., etc.. Needless to say, I really felt overwhelmed. lol Anyway, the one piece that I saw and recognized right away was this X-Men 207 cover. It wasn't for sale but Bill said he would remember me when the day came. Well, that day arrived and the 207 cover is now mine once more!!!! My sincere thanks to Bill Woo who frankly, could probably buy and sell me over 100 times with his pocket change. Bill's just one of those cool, nice guys in the hobby that makes it so fun to be a part of. He's also a guy who despite his amazing collection, is very humble. I couldn't hate the guy even if I tried. lol Last but certainly not least, thanks to Eric for letting this go in the first place. It meant a lot to me at the time (and still today) that Eric would hook me up with such a great cover. As a newbie collector in those early days, the task of adding nostalgic pieces from my childhood seemed like a herculean task. I had no connections and even less money. So, I will always be grateful to Eric for jump starting my collection with such a memorable cover. Thanks amigos!!!! Social/Sharing |

Congrats on reacquiring this classic cover! It's the definitive example from Romita Jr.'s first X-Men run. Just a lovely piece, all the more lovely for it's personal meaning to you. Brings a smile to my face... 2010 was an exceptional comic art year for you! Thanks for sharing it!

Congrats Joe : it's an unforgettable cover in many ways. Thanks for sharing the 10 years long saga of your reacquisition of that stunning Grail. There are so few pieces that are "the special one"...

Joe this is the cap of your collection. I used to have this one on my wall in high school, along with the Wolverine mini series. Awesome.

Ha! I still remember the first time we met, when you came by the house while I was still living in San Diego. I showed you my whole collection, but when I pulled this out, I think you almost fell off the sofa! LOL! I have no doubt that from the time you walked out my door you were already scheming on how to get this away from me. I'm still not too happy you flipped it in the first place, but now that you got it back, I guess I'll let you out of the doghouse! LOL!

I have to admit that I wasn't crazy about the JRJr / Dan Green combo on the X-Men back then. However, I do remember thinking what a cool cover this was when the issue hit the stores. Looking at it now, it still looks cool. Congratulations Joe, you rarely get a second chance to reacquire a piece you love. Cheers! N.

JrJr was really maturing as he was doing X-Men. Even though I personally believed he peaked later on (Daredevil), this cover is simply stunning. The spatial paradox is amazing (the cuts are in front of Wolverine but from the tapestry behind him...) - so you have your own Lucio Fontana created a-la- Woverine...perfect!

Very nice Joe! Now you just need another X-cvr. from this year as a bookend to match it. :)

This is just one of the most memorable images of the 1980's for me. It's always the simplest ideas that have the most impact. If I had to pick one image that summed up why i love comic art this would be it.

Great story, and an even greater cover! I got the chance to meet & hang out with John Romita Jr. at a Super Bowl party this year, and he is an awesome guy. Very humble for being such a legendary artist.
