DescriptionFor the record, I am not Wes and no Adam did not get my name wrong. This was an unclaimed bust sketch from New York. Adam was selling it at Fallcon and I was the lucky guy to pick it up. Adam asked if I was Wes, I said I wasn't nor did I care that the sketch was marked "For Wes". The other bit of writing is a watermark. I got the piece and Adam couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. While Black Cat is not the character I would have requested - as Adam has done so many versions of her - I will treasure this piece as it is from a favorite artist of mine and it is an original. Thanks Adam and enjoy all. Oct 18 Update - Yay! I have my first ever piece that is number one on the CAF most viewed list! Thanks everyone and hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do. Nov 26 Update - Thanks to all you CAF viewers for making my BlackCat piece my first CAF piece to have 2000+ views. And thanks to Allison's comments on the piece. Thanks again Allison and sorry I missed you at Fallcon. Cheers. Social/Sharing |

Congratulations on the great pick up! I saw this piece being done at NYCC and I was thinking how lucky the person who was getting this was.

I thought this while reading about this sketch on the Hughes group & I think it now... sucks to be Wes. Nice score, Mike!

in the context of that story about your lucky day, the 'From Wes' actually has to make you smile every time you look at it! (I tried for several years to get an AH sketch at comic-con, and with no luck)

Wes actually joined the Adam Hughes yahoo group and gave the whole story. His fiance was sick and getting sicker on all the days of the Con. He had to stay in his family house in Staten Island on Sunday after she got worse. Ain't that a revoltin' development? He even shed a tear or two upon finding out it was sold. Ah well, looks like nice guys DO finish last. It would have been even nicer if he left her at Staten Island on the second day. First so she could rest, second, to salvage the rest of the con.

I say that he did the right thing and took care of his lady like he should have. Wes, if you're reading this know that it is in a good home with someone who will respect it and not put it on eBay and I hope that you'll get an AH sketch just as good if not better.

But he did so more than a week after the sketch was abandoned. He only posted after seeing it here on CAF. Adam and I held onto the sketch for more than a week; when no one was looking for it, Adam sold it to Mike. It may sound cruel, but we can't be expected to sit on perfectly good art, in the hopes that someone will remember that they forgot to come looking for it. We're just glad that a fan was able to get a piece that they liked, and that the piece found a good home!

Since Wes never explained his situation to Adam and Allison they were perfectly in their right to do as they saw fit. I am also glad it went to a good home!
