Description

Featuring the 1st appearance of Static.

8.5 x14" Waterford thin artboard w/pencil, ink, airbrush background colors, and a painted central character, original color artwork for issue Static #1 (variant cover and newsstand), published DC Comics/Milestone June 1993. Denys Cowan and Jimmy Palmiotti's line art was transferred to this stat, which was then painted by celebrated colorist Janet "JayJay" Jackson (Marvel, Valiant, Milestone, Defiant).

The background was painted by airbrush, while the central Static character was traditionally painted. Top and left margins have masking tape borders.

Cover art for the groundbreaking comic issue featuring first appearance of Static (Virgil Hawkins), who would go on to star in one of Milestone's most recognizable original series - the 2001 Static Shock: Rebirth Of The Cool miniseries - and the acclaimed 2000-2004 Static Shock animated TV series. Static's future looks bright, w/a feature film in development.

A great piece that not only has Static, but carries with it the essence of the imprint as one of the biggest characters that came out of the whole Milestone universe.
