Description

John's pre-Marvel original art is extremely rare. Only ever seen 6 pages from Indian Chief, issues #30-33 (10-pages each), which he penciled and inked. This is one of two pages I acquired which are published in "John Buscema Michelangelo of Comics".

Not having seen this series before, I have to admit to how surprised I am at just how good Buscema's art was back and how fully developed his own style was even in the late 50s. I had seen his early Marvel stuff, of course, but I now realize he must have simply been forced to alter his style to match Marvel's other artists'. Also, it is much clearer how the bullpen inkers must have changed the look of his art.
