From 2009:

Before Marvel Team Up and before Marvel Two in One was the original Strange Tales, featuring the Human Torch and the ever-lovin', blue eyed Thing doing battle against assorted villains in every issue. Having mined almost all my favorite MTIO issues as source material for my commission gallery, my focus in recent times has turned to this 'grandaddy' of Thing team up books.

I am thrilled to say that this particular drawing of the Thing and Torch battling the Submariner was a gift from artist Mike Machlan. Mike wanted to draw his version of this classic book (originally by Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers and Paul Reinman) and so he did. How cool is that?!?

I have several Mike Machlan commissions in my collection and I hope that speaks volumes about how highly I think of his work. Mike's commissions have exceeded my (high) expectations every single time. My sincere thanks to him for this wonderful 'bonus' drawing.
