It may have looked out of date when it was first published, but with age, it has only made the art more classic!

His art was indeed very dated by the time the 80's rolled in, same as with many of his contemporaries who could barely get any work by that time, such as Kirby, Heck, Tuska, etc. In the case of Rom though, while I had purchased a few random issues here and there a few years earlier, I was actually excited to hear that Ditko was going to become the regular monthly artist on the book, so issue #65 is where I began collecting it regularly, BECAUSE of, not in spite of, Ditko's art.

As a bonus, you probably remember that because they all thought this might be the last opportunity to see Ditko producing monthly work, a bunch of artists begged the editor to let them ink Ditko on this series and that resulted in us getting to see the fun combination of modern era artists' styles, such as Byrne, Guice, Russell, etc. over the Silver Age stylings of Ditko's pencils. Great times!
