Description

Preliminary background from 101 Dalmatians, Disney 1961 Modernist painter Walt Peregoy was the color stylist for 101 Dalmatians and had an especially strong influence on the look of the backgrounds. This piece is a very rare test/preliminary production background. The piece is hand-painted on board with a detailed cel overlay. The new technology introduced in this film involved the use of Xerox machines to photocopy an artist's drawings directly onto the cel, thereby eliminating the need for inkers. Here, the background is painted without outlines; these have all been photocopied onto the cel overlay placed on top -- complete with the photocopied linework. Pre-production design artwork from this film is extremely rare.
