DescriptionYoung Avengers 11 pages 10 and 11Art by Jim Cheung Marvel Comics - 2006 Here are two fantastic story pages from the original YA story giving us some background on Wiccan and Speed's origins. In this two page sequence we learn about the unusual circumstances of Wiccan and Speed's birth and that they are the Scarlett Witch's children. Jim is such a fantastic artist and he packed a lot of history and story in these two pages, especially in the page 10 flashback panels, which he drew partially on the main page and part on a second board to make it easier to overlay the scenes Vision was projecting. In page 10 panel 1, Jim recaptured Dr Strange delivering the babies, which was a great retelling of the moment in Vision and Scarlet Witch issue 12 from 1986. That was followed by a really cool homage to the Mephisto panel from West Coast Avengers issue 52 from 1989. I added some comparison images in the additional images section. Jim also captured some flashbacks from Avengers Disassembled (maybe Avengers #502?). In page 11 (inked by Livesay) we see the brothers coming to terms with what they were seeing and almost learning who their father is. A fun video with more of their history: Big thanks to Xatari for making it possible to add these to my collection. Social/Sharing |

The artwork is terrific of course, but there's just something so aesthestically pleasing about all those long horizontal panels.

Solid piece of modern Marvel Comics history with important origin backstory for Wiccan and Speed and a great 2-pager from YA with some awesome panel layouts!

That's great that the overlay is there with it too. Jim is a superstar event artist and being on this book drawing at this level was what catapulted him to that status.

Love Cheung's work! I remember rolling my eyes when Young Avengers was announced but then absolutely loving the book, in no small part because of Jim's art! But the story was really great too! Congrats!
