DescriptionSTOP READING IF YOU ARE A BILL TUCCI FAN:10 years ago I was making a pretty good living working for DC, Marvel, & Valiant, so I tried to give back to the industry by doing inks for young artists.I met Tucci at a local con-[not even sure Shi -# 1 was out],and offered to ink figures & whatever to help his "new' book out.So for Shi #2--# 6 I did inks...and only got back one double-page splash returned..no other art. The book became a hit and spawned alot of merchandise-even a card set,,,which sadly I had to go out and buy myself if I wanted a copy for my files.I read stories in fan magazines about how he bought 10 motorcycles,a house...and the only royalty I received for my efforts was a box of reprints of issue #2.I have tried to resolve this "face to face", and with his "people" over the years without the courtesy of an actual reply. For a book about honor I believe he has none....and on this pinup he inked the face of Shi..that was the deal on the inks..he always inked the faces..[art--17 1/2 x 22]...sorry..I don't mean to be a drag, but It's been 10 years of dealing with his evasiveness--[I DON'T WANT THIS TO BE NEGATIVE, but it should be a warning for young artists to get a contract and not go into a business relationship just on trust..I didn't expect to make any real money helping out--I also never shared in the book's success--I was a chump!].Thankfully I had my dayjob. That's too bad Michael. At least a great piece of art came out of it . . .

around 95 or 96 i saw tucci at heroes in charlotte,nc. i asked if there was any chance of you doing a 3 issue mini-series on Shi. tucci said" if there was going to be a mini-series,he'd be the guy to do it." no wonder it never happened! it's a shame all this had to happen. oh well,he got his in the end. crusade went belly up more or less, and his "career" has pretty much evaporated....the Shi movie never came out...and David Mack's Kabuki showed everyone exactly what Shi wasn't:good.

I am a fan of Billy's. Business dealings without legal agreements are doomed to fail. I agree with that. I like Michael's art also. Too bad it did not work out. Slamming the SHI character is a little petty and comparing to Kabuki which came out about the same time is harsh also. Both of those characters had a rebirth of late on their 10 year anniversaries. I hope to see more of both in the future, especially now that David Mack has a really gorgeous woman to model for him in Mandy Amano.
