DescriptionThe first punisher title I ever read was JRJR's Punisher War Zone. I remember being enthralled by JR's work and how he made the Punisher this massive, unrelenting force of nature. This is it, this is the pre-eminent version of my favorite character and I still can't believe my eyes when I stare at his amazing splash page in person.Good Ol' Frank, fresh off the bloodshed from the previous issue, stalks a serial rapist in central park. Honestly, I can't think of a better example of a definitive Punisher page. The internal monologue; stoic, unapologetic, and with just a hint of dark humour. Frank rendered perfectly from the unmistakable pencils of Romita Jr and the legendary inks of Klaus...there aren't enough words to do this piece justice. This is how The Punisher was meant to be portrayed; a scowling monster of a man, hell-bent on destroying whatever's in his path. HUGE thanks to Francesco for dealing with me on this piece. I understand that this was a difficult one to part with, but I'm beyond appreciative that you were willing to pass it on. To say I'm thrilled to hold this piece in my collection is a massive understatement. This is truly my Grail! Social/Sharing |

I love hearing when someone gets their grail--especially when it comes to one I can truly appreciate! When I think of artists who did the quintessential Punisher, I think of two polar opposites: Zeck and JRJR. This is a fantastic example of why JRJR was such a perfect fit for Frank Castle. Congrats!

Jr/JR and Janson did a really hardcore punisher. Hereally reinvented his style in the early 90's and it worked best with dark stories and characters like the punisher. This is just raw power on paper.

I don't know why, but I really like JRjr punisher more than a lot of his other art. This is a spectacular piece - congrats!

You can't have a larger image than this squeezed in a page. JR JR really studied this quite well! Must be truly impressive in person.

Romita JR made him so bulky that it was impossible to consider him as a stealth killer anymore. And dont forget he even had a ponytail at the time and was mafia bodyguard by day, killer without as mask in the evening. But the action pages were so much more powerful than what he delivered way later in Kick Ass.

Punisher War Zone was my intro to the character, and it's always fu to see a great piece of art from the series. Big mook, big broken nose!

Amazing splash, just jam packing the entire page with detail. Jim Lee and Romita Jr really set the bar for me in terms of Punisher art and this is a perfect example as to why. Congrats!
