DescriptionI was lucky to come across this Dell/Four Color cover by George Wilson on eBay recently. This is from one of the last issues of Space Family Robinson (for Gold key, the series ended with issue 54) and may be one of the last covers Wilson did for the series. The Grand Comicbook Database continues to credit Wilson with covers past this, but they don't look like his work, to me. This one, however, is as consistent as his earlier covers. The colors in this are brilliant, and the monsters are classic SFR!Interestingly, Dan Speigel reproduced this image as a line drawing for the cover of issue 59, published by Whitman 5 years later in 1982. This was obtained from Chase Priest who also showed how smooth a deal can be. Social/Sharing |

Wonderful art. Just wonderful! Yes, it does look like Wilson to me too. And I agree, GCD is not right on quite a few of their attributions to Wilson for SFR. So nice to see this piece. Thank you for sharing! Becatinni says all the SFR's are Wilsons as well. Don't know why he said this.

For sure, Dan Spiegel redrew this cover as line art for the cover to issue 59 so that isn't his (although it is essentially Wilson's image). And I really don't think that many after issue 52 are truly by Wilson...maybe issue 55. A couple look like someone is trying to emulate his style, but 52-58 don't look like his work at all even though Wilson is credited for several of them on GCD. For example, the cover to issue 57 looks like someone tried to redo the cover to issue 17 but not as well as the original. Sorry for my ignorance, but who is Becatinni?
