Still waiting for this master to get the recognition he truly deserves, even though I understand that his subjects are often not to everyone's taste.
In the meantime, I'm glad to add another work by him to my collection!
In this page, taken from Pichard's loose adaptation of Émile Zola's novel "Germinal", a delegation of miners shows up at the company manager's house to demand more humane working conditions (which, back in 1885, wasn't quite an easy task).
As usual, I can't help but admire the effective characterizations, the accurate setting and the masterful inking technique!
