I must admit I dislike the early times of Erik Larsen's career in comicdom: I thought - and think now, too - that his Spiderman was a copy of McFarlane's. But time has passed and Larsen found his original way: Savage Dragon is one the most funny and coherent superheroes comic in history.
This page 8 from issue 12 of the unlucky Defenders Series (2000-2001) is a great example of Larsen's original style. It's a beautiful splash of Surfer searching something: his clear-cut brush and ink work remind me the power of Kirby drawings. I caught the opportunity to make it signed by Larsen at Lucca Comics 2019.
The strong idea behind this art is the perspective: the page was published as you see in the photo, and the Surfer is upside down. This helps to make more "alien" the Surfer, don't you think?

I disagree about your analysis of Larsen's art but agree this is a splendid page.Hesitated to go for it myself.The fact that he is upside down reinforce his alien origin and is proof of toughtful storytelling to me :)
