Description

Jesuit Joe testifies to Hugo Pratt's passion for the great North American landscapes as well as for the famous Royal Mountain Canadian Police created in 1873 and charged with watching over the vast territories of the Northwest.
"During many trips to Canada", Hugo Pratt explained, "I researched a lot of documents about this police force and after several years of work, I gathered enough material to build the story of Jesuit Joe, the crazy half-breed who, in fact, was not crazy at all but simply different."
Jesuit Joe, represents one of Hugo Pratt's most outstanding heroes along with Corto Maltese and Criss Kenton. The story of Jesuit Joe is indeed full of silence, violence and revenge. A destiny that Hugo Pratt wanted to prolong after the enigmatic conclusion of the story. So many years after the first episode, in June 1984, Pratt revived the comic for Comic Art magazine. The first issue of this magazine and for a few subsequent albums published the second episode, unfortunately incomplete, in which Jesuit Joe, unusually in company, is seen running into a gang of white men intent on raping a Laplander woman; having rescued the young woman, the story is interrupted in the sixth issue of Comic Art, never to be taken up again by the author.
