DescriptionDo you believe in Love at first sight?I do. You know, that momentous moment you lay your eyes upon one of God’s lovely ladies and your heart simply melts…and you know that YOUR IN BIG TROUBLE! It’s happened to me twice in my life. One woman I had the pleasure of dating for a time and we are still friends 25 years later. The other wouldn’t give me the time of day. Such are the fortunes of love, which can be a double-edged sword slicing right through to the very core of one’s heart and soul. We’ll it has happened a third time. Being an avid comic book collector since 1973, I have always appreciated the various artists that make this medium so very special. And for me, the great Alex Raymond is the absolute apex of artistic vision and talent. His brushwork was so elegantly fluid and naturally rendered that it embodies the very essence of poetic beauty. A Divine decree of pure brilliance personified in a man who could create such works that not only stun the onlooker with silent awe and wonderment, but possesses the power to uplift the heart and inspire the soul. Very rare! I’ve desired to add to my collection a classic piece by Raymond for quite some time – one that I wouldn’t have to mortgage my life to purchase. AND I FOUND IT! A piece of pure beauty, rendered in two of my favorite mediums – ink wash and graphite pencil. For me, this is the pinnacle of elegance and class and an ideal example of the artistic genius that was Alex Raymond. Well done, Mr. Raymond…VERY, VERY WELL DONE! Digital paints by one of my ace colorists Sinad Jaruartjanapat. Social/Sharing |

A lovely drawing by Alex Raymond! Your colourist used a quite different palette than did the artist when it first appeared!

I did not realize that Raymond did a color version of the piece. I basically asked my colorist to paint in a softer, more feminine watercolor style, which I think the art calls for. I was very pleased by the final result. By the way, you have a great collection of Raymond art yourself. Very impressive!

The magazine cover was nearly monochromatic - black, gray and green being the only colours used. The exact date of the magazine issue was April 1942.

Not the prettiest coloring job in my opinion.
