Description

Original artwork for Adventure Comics #436 (DC, 1974) by Bronze-Age legend Jim Aparo (pencils and inks). From the eerie tale, "The Gasmen and...the Spectre," this piece represents the best non-Spectre in costume page in this issue. Panel one features our hero, police Lieutenant Jim Corrigan (the Spectre), investigating a grisly murder scene and angrily promising that the perpetrators will eventually come forth to take credit as reporter Earl Crawford (the Spectre hunter) looks on. The large splashy panel two is the gem of this page that introduces the reader to the main villain of this tale, Field Marshall Offel, as he address his commandos to debrief them on "Operation Green Cloud," which they had just carried out with deadly execution. The background of this panel is sensational, to say the least, showcasing the magnificent interior of an old abandoned observatory, situated high atop a craggy cliff side that Offel and his henchmen use as their secret headquarters. This is Jim Aparo at his very finest - the peak pinnacle of his legendary career.

These evil men will soon learn the dire consequences of running afoul of the Astral Avenger.
