Description

An unusual piece of historical production art from the Silver Age of Marvel Comics. It's an odd piece that I'm trying to figure out the provenance of. It's larger than regular comic book size, and has date stamps of 1966 on the front and back. The back of the piece has the initialed Comics Code Authority approval stamp, and some notes on who did what on the page. Unfortunately, it doesn't say who did the coloring. It's possible it was a color guide or color test for one of the Marvel UK editions or an international version of the comic.

Thanks Adam, that's interesting to hear. I have wondered if it might be a color proof or test for one of the international editions of Marvel Comics. I'd be interested to know more about yours. This thing looks great - like having a giant page of the comic on the wall!

Vast majority of the British reprints were in b&w, so I'm doubtful this was produced for the UK.

Whatever it was used for, I'm glad that it was approved by the holy "Comics Code Authority ", else Cap would have a joint in his mouth, a blooby knife instead of the shield and in the background there would be a bunch of naked women ! Anyway, now try to get the original pencil/ink art of that great page :)
