DescriptionI'm very, very pleased to add this wonderful Back Home panel by Bill Mauldin to my collection. The piece dates from November 20, 1946, and is an example of some of Mauldin's finest post-WWII work. John Q. Public is in bed with Francisco Franco, Juan Perón, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and a member of a group identified as Little Hitlers. From what I've researched, Little Hitlers refers to small pockets of neo-Nazis found in pockets of the world, post-WWII. The caption reads: "They may not smell good, but they say they hate communism." Strange bedfellows.The piece is inscribed, “To Spruille Braden From An admirer - Bill Mauldin." Spruille was an American diplomat, lobbyist, and was on the Council of Foreign Relations. This piece came from the collection of my friends Sy and Sandy Schechter. Sy was a huge fan of Mauldin's work, and it's an honor to have this piece in my collection. Social/Sharing |

I've said it before and here it is again: You have one of the most interesting collections in the group. The art is always interesting in terms of story and technique.
