DescriptionI’ve been looking for one of these from the 50’s to add to the collection for a long time. Thankful to comicartlive for creating the venue to make it available! Great piece of art by the great Al Wiseman even though signed Hank Ketcham. If you want to know the signs that it is a Wiseman contact me privately. But incredible hand lettering of words and logo are one clue.Social/Sharing |

The stairs, the circle panel, and the silhouettes are great to break up the visuals as one of them will appear on each tier.

That's a cool piece, Dan, especially the design elements. Was there a time that Ketcham actually drew the Sunday page?

I'm not sure but from the examples I've seen from even 1953 (one year after the Sunday started) it appears not to be Ketcham's work.

Some of the earliest examples are a little hard to tell because the ghost artists seem to be giving an effort to look like Ketcham but this 1955 example has all the telltale signs of Wiseman besides the hand lettering: little puffs of smoke trailing Dennis running, silhouettes, multiple heads like when Alice surprised, tight vertical or horizontal lines in the background.
