DescriptionFI-NAL-LY a sweet and marvelous Romita cover to add to my collection and with a most sexy character and a major villain to add to my infinite pleasure !It's been 10 years since I fell in love with this beautiful masterpiece and thanks to the great french collector and friend Carlos "Wilson" De Souza I now can take it out of it's mylar to stare for hours ! Cat and the Owl are prominently displayed and the backgrounds are highly detailed, fight is on and Owl's goons are there too while people look through the windows..well what is not to love ? Owl first appeared in Daredevil #1 and Cat is (correct me if I'm wrong) the first Marvel female super hero to get a title of her own. While Black Widow starred in 1970 in Amazing Adventures vol2 sharing the book with the Inhumans, all the super women me met before were male super heroes wives or siblings. Cat appeared on December 1972 and though the title didn't last as only 4 issues got released it won't be long before Marvel introduces new female heavyweight super stars such as Red Sonja, Spider woman, Ms Marvel, She Hulk or Dazzler. We cannot not think about Catwoman and the Penguin looking at this Cat vs Owl awesome display and it is a pretty reminder of the ever lasting competition between Marvel and DC. It is interesting to note DC launched Supergirl on November 1972 one month earlier than Cat. Before that only Wonder Woman and Lois Lane had their own titles but they did not reflect girls power and feminine rights revolution, one being a kind of foreign goddess and the other Superman's girlfriend and born in the 40's and 50's. Nowadays women have clearly taken over in comicbooks and movies & series so that makes this cover quite an historic piece of comic art !!! The cover to issue #1 would be the true historic one yet Jazzy John Romita only did #2, 3 & 4 (Severin & Wood did the ish#1 ). Romita did this cover at the same time he did AMS 116 and if you go look for it on the internet you may find some kind of "mirror image" feeling. Definitly among my favorite pieces to hold on to forever and ever and ever THANKS WILSON !!!!! Social/Sharing |

Mellifluous flow of action and linework by the hand of JRSR. The great clean Marvel house style plus the dramatic presentation is such a staple of the look of the era. The Cat / Hellcat series was short giving us very few pieces and fewer covers.

Awesome!! Gorgeous and so well-composed and designed; there's a lot to look at here, and not all of it obvious at first sight. Big congrats!

Fantastic cover , I love the Cat's (and Hellcat's) costume . Funny nobody ever mentioned this but I can't shake the feeling that it was the blueprint for Wolverine's.....food for thought...

Glorious - the kind of cover that makes a comic leap off the newsstand and into your hand! Great series, and a fabulous piece of artwork - congrats!

Would have been easy enough to get lazy with the backgrounds on this, but not Romita. Love all those people looking out the window and the bystanders on the street below. Another glorious Bronze Age gem. Wow!
