DescriptionMarie Severin's covers are so powerful and paired with magnificent Al Milgrom this was a must have for me !Love all the cutting work to make the hands over the stats which is a small detail but makes the art pop to the reader ! Well, Doc Strange versus Baron Mordo from the historical Strange Tales !!! Ish #187 reprints the #138 & 139 and though I may never get any Ditko or cover art from that fabulous period I feel blessed to have that reprint issue cover which is the last before one of the Strange Tales volume one. Marie Severin did an awesome job on the ST after Ditko and Everett and she will pass the flame to Gene Colan who will take over the last cover (#188) and who actually drew the first Doc Strange issues which followed the main ST run. Oddly Ed Hannigan is credited for the cover on the Marvel database, oddly again Magnificent Al Milgrom reached Heritage Auction to claim he did the cover and even more oddly Heritage didn't take notice of the M Severin written on the back and the overall look of the art. If you check on Doc Strange it is an obvious Marie Severin face, astral form as well with the hands leaning forward and Mordo's profile.. Inking is awesome and the villain's cape is pure Marvel magic, Al Milgrom is my favorite inker (no surprise for I'm a Starlin french fanatic collector) !!! I did actually bid actively for the advertised Milgrom cover and realized it was Severin art afterwards when I had it in hands adding a feeling of luck over my feeling of joy and vice versa.. I am very very happy with this beautiful classic action M Severin / Milgrom cover ! Social/Sharing |

I agree with you. Marie is totally underappreciated for her work on the good Doctor. This is a great cover!!

Beautiful mid 70's cover taking us back to the excitement and weirdness of the times. Huge high point of the most creative Marvel cover art were produced around this time period.

Marie Severin is one of the most underrated artists in comics. She was incredibly talented as this cover amply demonstrates.
