Danny Fingeroth After 400 issues of ASM, and thirty-four years worth of appearances, Peter Parker's Aunt May finally passed away. Recently, in Amazing #391, Aunt May had yet another heart attack, this one brought on by the trauma of the supposed return of Peter's parents and their subsequent exposure as in-genuine. She fell into a coma, and stayed that way for eight issues. In issue 400 she recovers and returns home for a week, during which time May, Peter, Mary Jane, and Mary Jane's Aunt Anna spend the week together, enjoying each other's company. At the top of the Empire State building, May shocks Peter by telling him that she has known for years that he is Spider-Man. She apparently denied it to herself for that time. Peter spends a few last, quiet hours with her, and she silently passes away. The funeral is held, and she is buried next to Uncle Ben. The Scarlet Spider shows up later, to pay his respects privately. ************************* COMMENTS: Ben Reilly, the clone of Spider-Man is one of the most important characters that have appeared in the pages of Spider-Man. Many years before the publication of this page, the Jackal (Miles Warren Professor) created a clone of Peter Parker to avenge Gwen Stacy's death (the villain blamed him for the death of the young). This clone was Ben Reilly, who apparently died in Amazing Spider-Man # 149. Far from dying, Ben decided to roam the United States alone, to form a new life. But Aunt May on the brink of death brought him back. And he became one of the best and most interesting characters that have existed in the pages of the Webhead. The situation we find in this page is key. Aunt May, which was like a mother to Peter, has just died before his eyes and for worse, he has just been arrested for murder. Ben shows up at the Parker's home with intent to help, but Mary Jane (who barely knows anything about him) isn't going to make it easy. At the end, he could be guilty of the crime attributed to her husband! Later, we see this is not true, and that the guilty is Kaine (original clone), but the strength and tension of this page are undeniable. Bagley (the artist than most times has drawn a Spider-Man) reflects the situation with his usual expertise, with drawings and a narrative that border on perfection. The value and power of this page not only lie in the exposed, in addition, the Amazing Spider-Man # 400 was the best story of Spider-Man during the 90's and probably one of the key stories the history of Spider-Man. A luxurious page that has everything: history, power, nostalgia and quality. A page that any fan wants on their walls. (Text courtesy by Francesc Martinez) Social/Sharing |

Nice piece relaying a key moment from the Clone Saga. Great Scarlet Spider shot up top followed by great storytelling. Congrats!

That page is so iconic. Bagley at his best (Emberlin also put on his A-game,) even though there's no big action. Huge congrats on that beauty!!!
