Description

There�s a certain quality about Jim Cheung�s style that makes me think of his art the way I felt about John Byrne�s work in the 80s. Jim can draw every character perfectly and his art has an iconic feel to it that seems to capture the essence of the characters in the Marvel Universe at a moment in time. Said another way, if I could pick one artist to do an updated Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, Jim would be the one.

Jim Cheung was named as one of Marvel's Young Guns in August 2005, a group of artists that according to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada had qualities that would make them future superstars. Other Marvel Young Guns included Olivier Coipel, David Finch, Adi Granov and Steve McNiven, so Jim was in good company. It turns out that Quesada was right and I�ve been dazzled by Jim�s work in series after series as well as a number of special projects.

New Avengers Illuminati and Young Avengers have been my favorites from Jim�s body of work, so I�ve had my eye out for his original art from those titles on eBay and other auction sites. I was thrilled to see this cover from New Avengers Illuminati #4 on eBay back and bid my way to a successful finish. The finished cover was gorgeous in color and the original art with pencils by Jim and inks by Mark Morales are stunning.
