New Year resolutions and wishes are a constant and obligatory theme for all comic strip authors publishing in newspapers. All the greats have tried their hand at these, with Herg�s illustrations being some of the most renowned on this subject. What we can see here is not so much an illustration, but rather a hugely original gag. Expressing New Year wishes through a cat was a tremendous feat, and one which Peyo managed with brio and extraordinary finesse. The panels are wonderfully designed, the illustration is supple, the contrasts between
black and white are accentuated by blue pencil and white gouache.

Les souhaits de nouvel an sont un passage oblig� pour tous les auteurs de bandes dessin�es publiant dans des journaux. Tous s�y sont rod�s, les illustrations les plus c�l�bres en la mati�re �tant celles d�Herg�. Ici, il ne s�agit pas d�une illustration mais d�un gag d�une tr�s grande originalit�. Faire exprimer des souhaits de nouvel an par un chat �tait une gageure, Peyo s�en sort avec brio et une
immense finesse. Les cases sont parfaitement construites, le dessin est souple, les contrastes du noir et blanc sont ici accentu�s par le crayon bleu et la gouache blanche.
