Description

Galactic Aliens was one of the faux handbooks published in 1979 that I picked up at a B Dalton Bookstore. The book felt alien for the obvious reasons, but even more because all the artists were from outside the US and their styles were out of this world, like a lot of the rock album art from that era.

The art is on an 18 x 24 board and when shipped to me arrived bent. I had Alexandra VonHawk do restoration on it to correct the bend, touch up the gouache, and de-acidify the board, and fix water damage to the board that was known when I bought the artwork. You can watch the video where the art was returned to me here. There was no way to remove the puckering of the matte board the art was done on, but if I ever frame the piece it will be hard to notice. But the art is flat again and I'm happy to have this piece in my collection.

Terry’s unrest in the forest
Trouble with the trees
For B Dalton wants more spotlight
And the Oakes ignore their pleas

The trouble with the matt boards
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the Oakes are just too lofty
And they bend up angle light

But the Oakes can't help their feelings
If they like the paints they're made
And the pucker line that would show
Can't be happy in their paint

There is trouble in the forest
And the water damage bled
With the artboard restoration
And Von Hawk just shakes her head
