DescriptionFor my 300th Commission, I get to post a gem. I still cannot believe how BIG a part of my life that Infinite Timelines & Re-Legion has become. For years I collected published original Legion art and stayed pretty much in the shadows. Then a solid deal with Anthony Snyder for my long-awaited grail of twenty years, falls through and I am left with a bitter aftertaste of price gouging and broken promises.I felt like giving up on this hobby. I had met dealers who operated on the principle, " I have the art..only one exists ..so, if you truly want it.. you will come back eventually,no matter how badly we treat you " . I just wanted to walk away and then someone suggested " try getting some Legion commissions for a while "instead ...and a whole new world was opened up for me. The stress of dealing with art dealers vanished ( and although. let's be honest, dealing with some artists can be challenging ) comic art collecting became fun again. Since, I started posting, I have had people come up to me at shows from London to New Orleans and talk about Legion with enthusiasm. The first time someone recognized my name at an after-show event, I genuinely thought that some friends had sent them over to me as a joke. But it seems, Infinite Timelines has made a small mark with comic folks. Throughout the process, Michael Finn of " One Minute Later " fame was a great help, along with Michael, Damon & Brian. They gently, along with other folks on CAF, guided me into the world of commissions. This jam piece was Mr. Finn's idea and he got Joe Rubinstein to do a layout based on the Perez cover..I have to thank fellow Legion fans Miki Annmanthadoo & Dave Rash who have acted as extra sets of eyes for recruiting new artists or picking up pieces at shows for me. This piece has traveled to comic-shows that I have not yet attended. It has criss-crossed the Atlantic Ocean. I have to say , most of the artists never charged a penny for their work and many just asked me to donate to "Heroes ". Their love of Legion shows in their work. I am going to forget to some folks , but I would like to thank among others, Georges Jeanty, Rhiannon Jones, Barry Kitson, Mike Perkins, Bob McLeod, Pat Broderick, Mark Morales, Amanda O'Connor , Chris Batista, Jose Delbo,Greg LaRocque, Alex Saviuk, Jose Marazan, Jason Metcalfe, Trevor vonEeden etc etc. They shared their talents so generously and they shared memories of their first Legion comic-book and which Legion artist inspired them. I have to especially thank Chris Ivy for pulling all these diverse artistic styles together into one seamless gorgeous image and for all the amazing pieces he did on this Infinite Timelines journey. The faces in the panels are random choices by artists ( this was meant to be fun ) and represent a rich Legion history, with echoes in the larger panels of some of the " Infinite Timelines " events like "When Worlds Collide " & " A Time To Love and A Time To Die ". If one deal had not gone sour, none of this would have happened. I would not be fortunate to call talented folks like Chris Ivy , Russ Payne & John Watson friends... So here's to the next 300 Long Live Legion ( and Infinite Timelines ) Social/Sharing |

Love your background info on your commission collecting and the story of this piece in particular. I'm coming up on my 100th "Karate Kid vs." commission and that just blows my mind. Also, this piece in particular is just fantastic. I got excited as soon as I saw how many characters were represented. Keep them coming, Aidan!

300 commissions! Wow! I'm not sure I will ever get there myself, but you described it well when you said this is fun! I echo your thoughts and congratulate you on this cover and all of your fantastic Legion works. You are an inspiration to me and my love for Nova! "Long Live The Legion and Aidan Lacy!"

300? Wow! Your persistence, not to mention your person & editing skills, in the commission milleau/niche has really built a unique tribute to the Legion, comic book history, the artists who advanced the art form and, well, for lack of a better phrase, nerd wish fulfillment. (Enjoy your newfound fame; it is well deserved, and long live the Legion.) P.S., where is King Leonidas?

Oh my! Now THIS is a #300 anniversary cover! The talent, time and distance required to complete this cover is just incredible. It's so nice to have such talent contribute to single piece of art and the results are simply outstanding! Congratulations Aidan and I look forward to the next 300!

You as a big fan, knows that the cover to Issue 300 of the Legion of Superheroes was also a "legendary jam piece " .I wanted my milestone to have a similar type vibe. Thanks to the generosity of talented folks, I think we succeeded.

One day, DC is going to come knocking on your door and ask you to be the editor of a new Legion series. You may have to do a little moonlighting. :) Congratulations. This is no small feat and it's a real weekend treat.

CAF would be a dimmer place without you and your amazing creations. A perfect 300th piece. Looking forward to the next one (and the hundred after that).

Whenever I come to your collection of amazing fantasy covers, this one stops me in my tracks- it's such a great and instantly recognizable homage- and so very nicely done! Inspirational stuff- literally! I get very expensive ideas for commissions when I browse your stuff!
