DescriptionOne of the strongest attractions that I have to the Legion of Superheroes as a kid was that there was a real danger that someday a character I enjoyed, would die and that made the stories more exciting to read. There were elements of fun in characters like Matter Eater Lad but also themes of loss and courage. The story of Kid Pyscho was one of the latter. Everytime he used his amazing mental powers to help others, he shortened his own life-span by a year. The writers could have given him a span of thousands of years but they didn't. They knew it would diminish the sacrifice. However, it made him a really difficult character for writers to use. So , he is reduced to Legion Reservist status and will be called upon to use his powers, only in the gravest of circumstances.Years later, along comes the Crisis on Infinite Earths and Kid Pyscho steps forward. Sadly he does not survive. I have commissioned re-Legioned versions of the deaths of Ferro Lad, Invisible Kid and Chemical King. Although his appearances were brief, I felt that Kid Psycho deserves no less than his own tribute cover. Greg La Rocque ( pardon the obvious pun ) rocks both the pencils and reworked the layout of the original Metal Men cover. Chris Ivy inks it way over the top and tied it in nicely to our ongoing Infinite Timelines project , as an imaginary "Infinite Timelines : Untold Tale' . We decided to place the founding members Lightning Lad , Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl front and center. They as Legion founders ;have seen their dream grow bigger than they ever could have imagined but at a great cost and the sacrifices of heroes. We had Saturn Girl, cradling his body, as we thought that her own mental powers gave her a unique insight into the depth of Kid Psycho's courage and the brightness of his spirit. Even the Biblical style " Greater love hath ..." caption at the bottom of the page, that we came up with just adds to the gravitas and dignity of the character. So lets us pause a moment, bow our heads and give respect to an almost forgotten hero.Social/Sharing |

Chris' inks over Greg are tremendous -- I think this was a terrific choice of characters and the placement is well done.. Another RE-markable piece for RE-Legion.

I love how you take a relatively minor character like Kid Psycho and make him the focus of this scene. Beautifully done.
