DescriptionI have long sought a Moebius piece. His work has been so influential and his style is unique. This is a very simple ink, water color, and colored pencil piece believed to have been done around 1999, possibly as a preliminary drawing for the Mag Ado social network project. If anyone has any other information about the piece, it would be appreciated. From Etienne Mineur : Almost 13 years ago I was able to work with him (Moebius) on a web project called Mag Ado for Gallimard. Gallimard, at that time, wanted to develop a web portal site for teenagers. I was the art director and I had difficulties finding an illustrator able to understand and adapt to the technical constraints of the web (vectorial layout for Adobe Flash and low bandwidth). During a meeting with the whole team, I jokingly said that we would need someone like Moebius for this kind of work. Jean-Jacques Birgé (who was in charge of the sound design for this project) was present and took me at my word and managed to contact Mr. Jean Giraud himself. Two weeks later and for almost two months, every Thursday afternoon, I would go to his studio in Montparnasse, explain to him what I had modestly imagined (I was totally ashamed to show him my sketches), and then I would watch him draw and develop his ideas on paper, it was absolutely magical. He had an intelligence, an enthusiasm, an absolute mastery in his drawing. He had imagined a whole fantastic fauna and flora on a cubic planet. He himself had imagined the possible animations, despite the drastic constraints of the web at the time (basically animations looping on three 50-pixel images in 8 bits). We had developed (the Gallimard team, Gyoza Media, Hervé Lalo, Jean-Jacques Birgé) in 1999 an online universe illustrated by Moebius, a multiplayer where you could meet other users online... in short a kind of MMo before its time. Unfortunately, the project never saw the light of day- Gallimard having decided that the web had no future and decided to stop this magnificent project. https://etienne.design/2019/04/07/magado/ Social/Sharing |

This is absolutely fantastic and thank you so much for sharing the story.
Can you imagine a world where you could simply walk into Michelangelo's workshop and ask him for assistance on a project?
I imagine that is how future generations will look back at this story as Moebius' influence on our collective imaginations and styles is further recognized and cemented.
