DescriptionWhile the debate over the definitive Silver/Bronze-age Hulk artist usually is centered around Herb Trimpe or Sal Buscema, I’ve always liked John Romita’s Hulk. I think a lot of it had to do with the 70’s Mighty Marvel Marketing Machine – Romita’s images were everywhere, and made quite the impression on me. Still, there’s a consistency – a nice blend of man and monster – that I always appreciated in his Hulk. This cover almost has a 3D depth to it. While Valkyrie and Dr Strange are incapacitated, the Hulk’s rage comes through loud and clear… Defenders 12 was one of the first back-issues I ever owned as a kid. My mom would take me to a small, cluttered downtown thrift store in Reading PA where an elderly woman with a foreign accent would pull out amazing back-issue after back-issue. This one was a personal grail, and I’m very glad to own the cover art! Social/Sharing |

What a GREAT bronze age masterpiece- I just LOVE that Hulk image! Over the years, I unsuccessfully tried to get this beautiful cover a few times. I was finally able to land another Defenders favorite, but this one is among the VERY BEST... a fantastic addition to your impressive collection!

Beautiful cover, ya I loved Romita SR's Hulk as well. Especially in Spidey #119 & #120! Even though I loved Herb's, Steranko's, Colan's, the Buscema's Hulk very much also.

I remember getting back issues way back when as well and mine were from the only comic shop that I knew of (and existed for a long time). They also had to pull the back issues from the back and would plop down the boxes (random brown boxes found that would loosely fit comics - before long boxes) for me to sort through. This was an issue I pulled from those boxes and a perfect cover from a great period. Congrats and thanks for sharing (I have no idea how I haven't commented before now).
