DescriptionMany projects were developped in the wake of Star Wars' massive success in 1977.The STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL (November 17, 1978) was one of the first official Star Wars spin-offs. The show is famous for its negative reception and for introducing the new character Boba Fett who was revealed to be a bounty hunter working for Darth Vader. The Marvel STAR WARS series was the first comic series created for the saga. Valance, the cyborg bounty hunter appeared in only three issues of the series (he first appeared in SW # 16 [Oct. 1978], and died in SW # 29 [Nov. 1979]), but they were enough to establish him as one of the most interesting characters in the Expanded Universe. Premiering in the Fall of 1977, the STAR HUNTERS series was DC Comics' attempt to answer to the Star Wars mania. It chronicled the adventures of space rogue Donovan Flint and his crew of renegades. Unfortunately, the series lasted only seven issues before cancellation. I thought it would be fun to associate the BOBA FETT, VALANCE THE HUNTER and DONOVAN FLINT characters. Dave ROSS was the perfect choice to imagine the scene. Dave is an incredible penciller who knows how to create dynamic compositions. Morever, Dave worked on the covers for Star Wars: Legacy: Trust Issues, as well as the interior art for Star Wars: Dark Times and Star Wars: Legacy. And the inker's choice was easy. First, Bob LAYTON is one of the best inkers in the comic book industry and he and Dave have worked together several times. Then, Bob is familiar with the Star Wars universe (it obviously inspired him when he worked on HERCULES and , as co-plotter and inker, Bob teamed up with his long-time collaborator David Michelinie to produce issue 78 of the Marvel STAR WARS series). Finally, Bob Layton was the regular inker on the STAR HUNTERS series, and maintained artistic continuity throughout the title's short run. Many thanks to Dave and Bob for the beautiful piece of art and to Jerry LIVENGOOD at Serendipity Art Sales. 11" x 17" Pencil & Ink Social/Sharing |
