DescriptionIllustration by Stan Borack for the story The Hungry Woman by Joseph Heller. Published in Man's Magazine, May 1972.This has to have been a repurposed illustration originally done for a paperback cover that was never used/published. Possibly a Banner Books cover since it has Banner #18 written on the back although it doesn't match their numbering system. Borack did other Banner covers as well but this doesn't really have the feel of a Banner Book but who knows. Sometimes a smaller publisher or particular imprint would fold and the commissioned art would not get a chance to be used so they would find another use for it in one of their other publications at a later date. I think the art director for the magazine used a photo of the artwork and cut her out of the tiger skin background and painted on top of the photo to make her dress open more so you would see her nipples, which were also added. i don't see any signs of overpainting on the original. If anyone does know of a book this was used on, please let me know! Social/Sharing |

Yeah, it looks like a weird cut and paste job, where the woman and the background were clearly not painted at the same time by the same person. But I love Borack's work, so any time I get to see a new piece is a good time!

I think he's very underrated. He's in my top ten.

Nice leopard print to make her predatory look even more enticing.

Oh, he's certainly one of the best who ever worked in the paperbacks. If there were ever a ranked list of artists by tier, he would absolutely be in the top tier.

Beauty! Definitely one of the nice Borack's I've seen!
