DescriptionThe Splash from the Issue that started All the Infinity stories!!!STARLIN SPLASH GRAIL!!!!! Warlock #9 is by Galaxies, my Favorite Comic Book. It is The Key Issue in the entire Magus Saga as well as the foundation of all Infinity books to come. It introduces us the the Magus, my personal favorite character, and his back story and relationship to Adam. Steve's inks are superb and the entire team, including Tom, did an incredible job here. The Infinity Effect lettering is all original art. The Magus, Warlock, Gamora and Pip grace this stunning Splash page so what more can a True Believer ask for? I prefer the art on this issue to any other issues on the run, so please contact me if you have any or know the whereabouts of any. The Star-Thief storyline is also of interest, particularly Issue 13, page 27! Social/Sharing |

I am really surprised that Bill Cox did not spotlight this incredible splash page on 23 November when you posted it. This is Starlin at the top of his game.

The cross-hatching in the top half of this splash is mesmerizing! Adam's cape looks really cool also. Thanks for sharing this amazing piece of art!

What a page: it seems like a Starlin/Leialoha manifesto! Warlock, Pip, Gamora and the damn Magus. All and I mean ALL the background is breathtaking. Great hit!

How have I not commented on this page yet? My only excuse is I'm a latecomer to comic art. But this title splash page is one of the most important pieces of Bronze Age art posted here on CAF! Where do I start extoling this page's virtues? 1. It's the beginning of the whole Infinity Saga. 2. It's the introduction of Magus, Warlock's future self. 3. It features Gamora before the GOTG movie. 4. It's one of most detailed splashes Jim Starlin ever drew. 5. It's spendidly inked with lots of yummy crosshatching by the great Steve Leialoha. 6.All the lettering is original art. Hmm. Yup, That ought to be reason enough to earn this splash another 50+ comments or likes. It really is an amazing page, serious congrats to you for posting it.

Somehow, easily overlooked with All the other brilliant art in CAF.

This is one of Steve's first Professional Inking Assignments (He had inked Jahna the Space Viking By by Marv Wolfman for Mimeograph before this).
I had sold most of my comics some years before Steve got this gig, mostly to pay for taking-out girls on dates, and this was my introduction to comics that were not much like the ones I read when I was 10. Spider-Man #3 was pretty awesome, but this was almost sorta "Adult..." and really clever. I remember being over at Steve's house reading the pages as they came in for Steve to Ink. I dug it... I may have even filled-in some Blacks on this page or erased it.

My pleasure. I remember helping Steve fill-in Blacks on some of this stuff, and the first thing we tried was Laundrey Markers... and after both of us had been sitting on the floor and filling-in the blacks for a bit, we both suddenly got ill and had to go out on the Front Lawn to breath... then after we recovered I tried Steve's brand-newly purchased Windsor-Newton Series 7 #2 and some India Inlk... and voila... Nice Solid Black Areas that didn't make us sick.
