DescriptionStunning Walt Kelly advertisement artwork for the 1960 Pogo book “Beau Pogo”, featuring PT Bridgeport and his amazing speech balloons. Kelly created this and 3 other similar publicity artworks to advertise his new book Beau Pogo in none other than The New York Times, the so called “gray lady” of New York journalism (which coincidentally did not carry any comic strips). These ads appeared on 4 consecutive days, February 8th through 11th 1960, with the present example being the 3rd and published February 10th 1960. All 4 of these ads were later reprinted in the fan book “Phi Beta Pogo” (the reprinted February 10th example is in the additional pictures below)...I learned that the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum owns the original art to the 2nd of the 4 pieces… Social/Sharing |

Congratulations on a truly wonderful example by the incredible Walt Kelly! The artwork is terrific and is perfectly complimented by the incredible lettering. It is also cute how Walt Kelly included a plug for "Ten Ever-Lovin Blue Eyed Years with Pogo" on the desk! Thank you for sharing this gem!
