DescriptionWonderful extremely early official promotional illustration by early Disney artist Win Smith. Garry Apgar's book "Mickey Mouse: Emblem of the American Spirit" cited a publication of this drawing in "The Outlook and Independent" July 23rd 1930 (please take a look in the additional pictures which I will add later)...as Win Smith left the Disney studio in mid/late April 1930, this would place the date of this drawing well into the first half of 1930...I'm extremely happy to add this beautiful piece to my collection, as Win Smith's artwork is extremely rare... Win Smith was an animator and comic artist, best remembered for being an early artist to draw the 'Mickey Mouse' newspaper comic strip. The Mickey Mouse comic strip debuted January 13th 1930, and for the first full 4 weeks (24 dailies in total, until February 8th 1930) Ub Iwerks pencilled the strip, with Win Smith providing the inks (story by Walt Disney himself). Then Iwerks left the studio and Smith was left to do pencils AND inks on the strip (story still by Walt Disney). His tenure only lasted a couple of months, until he had a falling out with Walt Disney and left the studio, his last strip being May 3rd 1930...Floyd Gottfredson took over May 5th and would stay with the Mickey Daily for 45 1/2 years... Oh! You got it! ;-) Big congratulations! It looks you had much better knowledge than HA! ;-) I was also thinking this but didn’t had time to study, and most likely wouldn’t solve this in time.

The art is wonderfully Disney and has the rare vintage line quality of a bygone era.

What an incredible Mouse piece. Just went to The Walt Disney Family Museum yesterday and played an interactive game where you pull on a cat tail for sound effects. That duck honk is perfect. I also love the pig in the back at total peace with the fact that a mouse is behind the wheels.
