DescriptionAn idea I had a bit out of the ordinary lol and Richard turned into something out of this world. I've always known Rich for spectacular coloring skills but his inking skills are unbelievably good. I couldn't be any happier with what i envisioned. He went above and beyond. Thanks to Craig from Wednesday's Heroes. Thank you so much Rich! From https://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1950002 by Richard Cox The commissioner requested Galactus bestowing the Power Cosmic upon Daredevil. My only reference for Galactus was Jack Kirby and Moebius. Which to me pretty much sums up Galactus. The hands and lighting are from a selfie. No I won't post it. :) The color theory is pretty straightforward here. Since Galactus and DD are all reds and purples, do with yellows and greens in the backgrounds and as am outlining element. Art school 101 stuff. Compositionally, it's all about the contrasts between dark and light to create depth. This is especially apparent (I hope) in the sharp, black foreground in Galactus' fingers contrasting with the whites and purples of his thumbs, which when combined with a slight overlap with DD creates a nice globe of depth around Matt. I think it works best on the hand to your left, which also includes the curve of the palm slightly. Coupled with the diamond I constructed around DD visually, you have your focal point. Galactus being a very curvy character - not in the way, unless it's your thing I guess - I'm able to carry this through with G as well, as his helmet and shoulder pads curve around into darkness and meet the complimentary colors in the nebulae and allow him to stand in contrast from the overall background. So I'm really trying to construct 3 distinct planes here. Hopefully it works. Finally, the commissioner also asked for a lot of inking and linework, which is fine. I had to adjust how I work with color markers though. So I had more in-depth inking, and made the marker work a lot less detailed as a result. I then used a variety of colored pencils to add more depth, light and color, which is a direction I'm heading more and more in anyway, as some may have noticed. I've attached a couple of full-res images of swatches to show some of the linework I'm talking about, which is lost in web-ready scans. Copic marker, white acrylic, and Colored pencil on 11x14 smooth bristol board. Social/Sharing |

Very cool concept D!! Another gem to an already tops DD collection. I dig the colors and angle the artist used. It really puts the focus on Daredevil and makes for powerful imagery.
