DescriptionHere's a commission piece done for Rich Cirillo. He wanted dark & moody, and Rags knocked it out of the park.....and then he asked me to ink it., but I thought the pencils were too beautiful by themselves, so it was inked on another piece of DC paper.Social/Sharing |

Well, since I left a comment in Rich's gallery, I may as well echo my sentiments here. Mike, as amazing as Rags' pencils are, I really think your inking puts this piece over the top! I don't know what is about you doing the Hawkman and Hawkgirl characters, but you just always seem to KILL on them! I just wish I could get my damn hands on one! Beautiful job on this buddy! Easily one of my all time faves from you so far!

Mike - I love seeing these side by side and being able to discern the choices you made. It's proof of your amazing talents - you really added a lot to those pencils (in a good way!). Awesome!!

Having seen Rag's and Bair's beautiful Hawkman pages I knew I had to have a definative piece from the duo. In one the books I found a panel where Hawkman was standing in the rain on a gargoyle but it was an upwards shot. I thought at a different angle it would make for a really cool pin up. The idea reminded me of an old Romita Spider-Man page with the Vulture looking down on the city in the rain. Visually, Hawkman was always one of my favorite characters, I'm glad he is finally in good hands with this art team supreme!

You took a nice simple layout and created an amazing pinup. That's fantastic!

more proof that a good inker is always a good pencil artist also. i studied this one at length to see just what you kept the same and what you changed, and why. all were dynamite choices, you took a sketch and made it a finished piece. but rags is so damned good it's easy,he really deserves all the accolades he's getting. parts of his pencils remind me of joe kubert's stuff.

This is without a doubt the coolest Hawkman illustration I've ever seen. Rags pencils - gorgeous. Your inks - gorgeous. If this were to be colored I would hope it would be done as a oil painting; anything other type of coloring would look like crap. This deserves the best color.
