Description

A grail of sorts for me. This is a superb example from the series that made Joe Mad. This is only the second issue of X-men he ever worked on. Here is a super dynamic title splash featuring everyone's favorite cajun mutant Gambit as he is pursued by Phalanx. Gambit dispatches with his enemy a few pages later. I love the inks on this page and how the black waves serve to give such amazing depth to the scene. Just a great piece of X-men and Joe Mad history.

On a side note: I feel Gambit is one of those characters that visually I either love or hate an artists rendition of. Unfortunately, overall I feel the scale is heavily weighted on the side of the latter. On the other hand I think Joe Mad's unique style makes for a perfect interpretation.
