"In the cave days, nobody brought suit against a love bandit. The gentleman simply slipped over to the other cave and beat the inmate into a light whey."

The first Hurst piece I've owned that isn't in color. There is a little bit of damage visible at the right upper quadrant from the illustration board being bent at one point in its life, but fortunately it does not really involve any of the primary elements of the image. It served as the main illustration for "Before the Wedding," a story by Frank Condon about "the painful adventures of a young man named Alan who didn't feel like laughing when his best friend copped his girl." It appeared in the May 9, 1936 issue of Collier's Weekly.
