DescriptionRIMA, The Jungle Girl # 4, page 10 – superb art by NESTOR REDONDOI believe that every comic art collector desires one special specific piece of art. It could be for nostalgic reasons, it might be the page that completes a book, or possibly they just love the art. We often use the word – GRAIL in regard to these pieces of art. These are the pages that we dream about and search for relentlessly. I don’t use the word Grail lightly, but on this occasion, it certainly applies. So, acquiring this piece of art is very special to me. I’ve wanted to own this page from DC’s - RIMA, The Jungle Girl for nearly 30 years. This image has haunted me for a very long time. It’s hard to articulate precisely what draws me to this image, perhaps it’s because it assembles so many of the themes of the story together. I’ve often wondered if Joe Kubert was chuckling when he did the layouts for his page. He sketched a full-page human head, then added a gigantic tree, a Venezuelan warrior, flames, and the beautiful RIMA. Was this a test for Nestor Redondo? If it was, then Redondo hit it out of the park. How did he draw all of those images and make it work? Well, that’s because Redondo was a genius.
