Descriptionin 1976 I was 13 years old when I picked up Nova #1 off the spinner rack at the local drug store. At that time I had somewhat established a pull list of various Marvel titles which included Amazing Spider-Man,The Fantastic 4,The Hulk,Marvel-Team up and a few others. I was not prone to bying first issues(Skull The Slayer was an exception because it included dinosaurs),but for one reason or another(might have been the suit),I was inclined to pick up Nova #1. I was in awe of the character, story and the incredible art from John Buscema. By issue #3 Sal had taken over for John and the world of comics changed for me forever. Sal was already at the top of my reading list, and anything he penciled was an automatic pull for me. Sal lasted for 12 issues on the book and to this date I still think personally that was the best run in my comic lifetime. When Sals commission list opened I had to jump on board as this was an opportunity I may never have again. Seven months and a couple phone calls to Sals rep Al later, this is what resulted. Other than some original Sal Nova art(which is hard to find these days),this is my Grail piece. At some point I may even use this for a Nova fantasy cover, but for right now I will frame it where I can view it every day. Many thanks to Sal's rep Al for making this happen for me. Social/Sharing |

yeah, the sad part being that as Sal's essentially retired, yet still out there inking, he doesn't have enough time for all us fanboys :) But ~oooooh~ if the wait worth it!@ Great one Rob!

Congratulations--I loved Sal's work on Nova, and it doesn't get any better than this!

Congrats on adding a wonderful piece! I love Sal's art and I too loved Nova when it first came out... glad to find someone here a few years older than me. :-)

I was 15 three months away from 16. When Nova #1 hit the stands. I was shocked Nova wasn't the new Spider-Man of the mid 70's. The first 15-18 issues of this series was great. By Big John & Sal Buscema inked by Joltin Joe Sinnott & Tom Palmer. Congrads! Blue Blazes!

A classic character drawn by a comics art legend. Doesn't get any better than that.
