Jim Salicrup In Symkaria, Captain America and Silver Sable confront Sabretooth, the true assassin of Symkaria's Prime Minister. Meanwhile, in the United States, Spidey and Solo track down the current ULTIMATUM big-wig. And on top of that, diplomatic relations between Symkaria and the U.S. have not only broken off, Symkaria's sending death squads after U.S. politicians! Erik Larsen's first issue as penciler features a cover by Todd McFarlane. Part Five of the Assassin Nation Plot features a battle between Captain America and Sabretooth. As some of you know, most of Erik Larsen's Amazing Spider-Man pages was destroyed in a house fire in 90's. This, coupled with that is the 1st Issue which replaces Todd Mcfarlane, it becomes a Grail. In addition, the page itself is absolutely impresive. ERIC LARSEN drawn ASM pages are EXTREMELY hard to find for public sale these days, and his ASM BATTLE PAGES are even HARDER TO FIND! ************************* COMMENTS: If we think of Spider-Man throughout the 90's, in the graphic design we can get many names in the forefront. John Romita Jr., Mark Bagley, Sal Buscema and, above all, Todd McFarlane, are some of the most outstanding artists that passed through the arachnid titles. But one that we should never forget, both for its quality and its historical importance, is Erik Larsen. The creator of the Savage Dragon series had one of the greatest challenges for an artist: replacing Todd Mc Farlane in Amazing Spider-Man. McFarlane had been 25 numbers at the front of the series when he left it at number 323, making the most important graphic change in Spider-Man's history of the last 20 years. Larsen overcame the challenge with a note. Not only did he have to adapt to McFarlane's style to please the fandom, but he also did it with his own style and, for many, I have surpassed his predecessor with a unique, risky and totally recognizable style. And here we have a page of his first issue, a historical comic for many. Larsen had arrived at Spider-Man and was going to make comics for the memory. Erik Larsen, despite the short of his stay in Amazing Spider-Man, became one of the most recognized artists of the time. Unfortunately, Larsen would leave Marvel to found Image along with several of his colleagues (including McFarlane). If it had not been like that, who knows what would have happened? Perhaps it has become one of the arachnid authors references. What I can say sure, is that Erik Larsen has been one of the most risky authors in the history of Spider-Man and one of the best 90's. Super cool page from the talented Erik Larsen. Always enjoyed his run and thought his Spidey webbing top notch! Really cool how he borders three panels and leaves the superstar unbound and web thwipping right off the page.

Love this Erik Larsen Amazing Spider-Man page! Larsen was following immediately after Todd McFarlane so he had to adapt his style to avoid unduly upsetting readers. Here, he borrowed the oddball layout style that McFarlane introduced, with four long thin panels instead of a more conventional layout. He handled it well, and made it his own. Love the final panel, with no borders, of Spidey and his spaghetti webbing. Again, Larsen subsumed his style for McFarlane's and was pretty darn successful doing it. IMHO, this is a terrific ASM page. Great pick-up, congrats!
