DescriptionI had the opportunity to meet Richard at a Burroughs convention where he was the guest of honor. He had two of the paintings he did for the series book covers as well as 7 or 8 of these preliminary paintings with him and they were all for sale. I picked this one because I thought it was so Krenkel-ish and it hearkened to St. John's painting for the original pulp cover for "Slaves of the Fishmen". My only regret is that I could not buy more, they were all beautiful pieces, it hardly seems fair to call them "roughs".Social/Sharing |

It's beautiful work. It was a shame in the books that they didn't use the full cover for the painting instead of a square with the text outside. Hescox is good--very damn good. His Classic series paintings are wonders to behold. I hope he gets another shot at Burroughs books. Keith

Great painting and yes, it does seem unfair to call this a rough as it's more finished then some of the other finished paintings that you see surface. Very nice and congrats.
