DescriptionKirby and Smith - a special collaboration - with the most infamous villians, Cap and Bucky!I picked up my first page from this book in 2006 and over the years it has really grown on me so I decided I am a potential customer whenever one of these page emerges. When this page, p6, popped up I had page 7 for ~ a year so the temptation was increased by the opportunity to have sequential pages - it wasn't easy but I was able to rationalize the purchase and as is generally the case, have no regrets. I like 3 panel pages - get the impact of a splashy panel and sequential storytelling in one - and without the same bank breaking impact of a splash. [For those that don't know, this is the only book Jack Kirby and Barry Smith worked on together - and only the 1st chapter (11 pages); a few others are on CAF so check them out if you like these.] Social/Sharing |

I can never get enough of BWS's inks over Kirby. The faces of the thugs in the big panel look amazing. Big congrats Mark!

Fantastic page! It's a shame that Kirby and Windsor-Smith did not collaborate again.

Mark, this is a beautiful page, as much for the great "Nazi" villains, as for Jack's art shining with the beautiful BWS inks....Super!

WOW. This page has everything. Cap, Bucky, Hitler and the Red Skull. All it needs is Agent 13! A piece of history.

Wow, what a treasure! Bicentennial Battles is one of my favorite Jack Kirby books of all time and the pages inked by Barry Windsor Smith are among the best in the book. Congrats!

Very nice!! Cap, Bucky, Red Skull, and Hitler on one page! Interesting to see how Smith put his own style into the inks, without overpowering Kirby's pencils. Congrats, Mark!

Stunning! It's always a wonder to see BWS, in full "Red Nails"/early Gorblimey mode, inked Jack, without watering down his style, or overpowering Kirby's - - which granted, is so powerful, it's almost impossible to overpower... anyone a good mix! Barry's style seems to bring out Kirby's 3-D-ish strengths more than ever!

Also, is there a chance that Romita redid Cap's face in the 2nd panel?

This page, along with the next two, have always remained my favorite sequence from this great story. With such a recent decline in American patriotism, this (these) page(s) are even more prolific & powerful now than ever before. Most will say Cap's greatest arch- nemeses has always been The Red Skull. But I think "Adolph' will always be The Super Soldier's greatest and worst of foes. Either way, "BRAVO"!

incredible stuff. Looks like Smith was following Syd Shores. What an epic set of pages!

Wow. It doesn't get much better than that. I mean, maybe if Hitler were getting punched, but you get that on the next page. ;-)

The script and dialogue is awful. The artworks great though.
